Torchlight III’s Wintery Snow & Steam Update is Out Now
Torchlight III’s new Snow & Steam update brings a holiday flavour to the hack-and-slash dungeon crawler.
Winter is upon upon us, unless you’re in Australia, in which case Torchlight III’s new update won’t have quite the same impact. Either way, Echtra Games’s dungeon crawler (available on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4) has an optional snowy sheen, allowing you to decorate your fort with winter decorations, encounter new pets and more.
The content is based around the time-limited ‘Snow & Steam Contract’ which, when pursued, leads you down the seasonal path. Want to ‘aww’ at a cat wearing a terrible sweater? Go right ahead, even though the cat will almost certainly plot your death for subjecting it to such an indignity. Feel like swapping out your head for a snowman’s? Torchlight III: Snow & Steam has got you covered, though it’s not clear whether a nearby snowman gains a real human head.
Even better, while the contract is time-locked, you can keep the items you acquire for use all year round. The update also sports some quality of life improvements, entirely unrelated to the season. The Forged class gets a new HUD and there’s a new feature that allows players to dye their gear, Fable II style.
We praised Torchlight III’s gameplay but criticised its end game offerings, saying “if Echtra Games adds in further content at a later date, it’s something we’d be keen to rush back into.” Looks like we’ll be putting our snow shoes on. You can check out the launch trailer below.
