Ubisoft unveils 1st trailer for ‘Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’
Fans of James Cameron’s epic 2009 science fiction film “Avatar” will get the chance to explore the movie’s lush moon Pandora for themselves in a new first-person action game from Ubisoft.
Unveiled Saturday (June 12) during the Ubisoft Forward event for E3, “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” will launch in 2022 to send players back to Pandora as one of the moon’s indigenous Na’vi. Their mission: to venture out into the unexplored Western Frontier.
Ubisoft revealed a first glimpse of the world in a new trailer, showing life among the Na’vi and action-packed battles against Earth forces seeking to plunder the moon’s resources.
“Explore a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it,” Ubisoft wrote in a description. The game was developed by Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment and will be available on PC, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia and Amazon Luna.
While Ubisoft did not release a specific date for “Frontiers of Pandora,” it will come in a year that will see a renewal of Cameron’s “Avatar” film franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron’s original “Avatar” film will be re-released in China. The first of franchise’s long-awaited sequels, “Avatar 2,” is scheduled to be released on Dec. 17, 2022, according to Cinemablend. It’s the first of several sequels in the works.
Of course, if you can’t wait until 2022 for “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” or “Avatar 2,” there’s always “Pandora: The World Avatar” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom amusement park in Florida, if you’re comfortable with traveling (and amusement parks) right now.
