Elden Ring’s Latest Patch Introduces Some NPC-Friendly Changes
Elden Ring’s latest patch, 1.03, is out right now, introducing a handful of tweaks and changes.
Elden Ring, which we described as “FromSoftware’s best game yet by a large margin, and that’s making a statement”, wasn’t a buggy trainwreck to begin with but this new patch adds at least a couple of welcome additions.
The most notable one is that there’s now “a function to record an icon and the name of an NPC on the map when you encounter that NPC.” In other words, you don’t have to scratch your head whenever you want to track down a particular merchant or other NPC. We’re glad that Elden Ring‘s map isn’t crowded with icons but we have to admit that this is a useful feature to have.
On top of that, a new NPC has been introduced, “Jar-Bairn” who, as you can probably tell from the name is a sentient jar-shaped being, complete with their own side-quest. Speaking of quests, there are now new quest phases for Diallos, Nepheli Loux, Kenneth Haight and Gatekeeper Gostoc.
In other words, if you think you’ve finished Elden Ring, you’ve got more to do. Heck, if you’ve finished it once, why not replay it with a different character, ignoring the calls from your employer and/or concerned relatives? NPC tweaks aside, there are also some bugs and balance changes.
You can find the full patch notes here, but if you’ve been powering your way through Elden Ring with one suspiciously-powered weapon you might have a nasty surprise when you next try wading into a horde of enemies. And if you’ve not played Elden Ring yet, you can pick it up on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
